| Description: |
Duke Street Chapel was founded in 1901. Although we are an independent church, we are a member of the Evangelical Alliance, which represents over a million Christians in some 30 denominations. The word “evangel” means the “good news” about Jesus Christ, which his first followers proclaimed and which is recorded in the Bible. Evangelicals emphasise the importance of a personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ, and the importance of the Bible as the foundation for what we believe and how we live. Our members are drawn from a mix of ages and backgrounds. We meet together to worship God, to pray and to study the Bible; to care for one another and encourage each other to follow Christ. We also seek to serve one another and the community beyond the church, demonstrating the love of God in practical ways and sharing the good news about Jesus Christ. Our desire is for people outside the church to discover for themselves that Jesus Christ is good news for them too.We seek to be “a church for Christ, for all, for today”. |
